I’m just back from a fairly long trip to Japan, had a great time, learned a lot, reflected tons, saw stuff, and enjoyed the time sooo much. Huge thanks to everyone I met and talked to, it would not have been the same without you! Massive thanks to Japan for the hospitality!
So, take some time to enjoy the Hanami season, given how it was cancelled last year for obvious reasons. I never expected the feeling to be that of going to a beach party, with people playing ball, barbequing, dancing, chatting with friends and strangers alike, playing music in the parks, enjoying sake, and generally having a good time.
It’s a side of Japan I could never prior imagine, and it does make me feel saddened that this was taken from the country last year, understandably making the hit to confidence in the nation that much stronger. Please, people of Japan, take this time and truly enjoy the flowers that are such an icon of your nation, and let them inspire your imagination to blossom in anticipation of new and fruitful times. Rekindle the fires of inspired movement that the Meiji Emperor lit over hundred years ago whose blazes will stand to reminiscence this year. Let the sparks of ambition beam like the petals themselves, shining light on the strength of your nation like the sakura highlight the branches and trunks of the resilient trees they bloom from.
